Program Overview
The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Mathematics & Computer Science at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is a 2-year, on-campus graduate program offered by the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. Designed for students seeking advanced interdisciplinary knowledge, this program combines rigorous mathematical theory with practical computer science applications. The curriculum includes a thesis component, allowing students to conduct original research under faculty supervision. EMU, located in Famagusta, North Cyprus, provides a multicultural learning environment with modern facilities.
What You'll Study
The program covers core areas in applied mathematics and computer science, with an emphasis on modeling, algorithms, and computational methods. Key topics include:
- Advanced Mathematics: Linear algebra, differential equations, numerical analysis, and optimization techniques.
- Computer Science Foundations: Data structures, algorithms, programming languages, and software engineering.
- Interdisciplinary Applications: Scientific computing, data science, machine learning, and cryptography.
- Research Methods: Thesis preparation, academic writing, and seminar participation.
Students must complete a thesis (typically 30 ECTS) demonstrating original research in a specialized area. The program requires 120 ECTS total, including coursework and thesis.
Career Outlook
Graduates are prepared for careers in research, industry, and academia. Potential roles include:
- Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer in tech companies
- Quantitative Analyst in finance or consulting
- Research Scientist in government labs or universities
- Software Developer with a focus on mathematical modeling
The interdisciplinary nature of the degree also provides a strong foundation for Ph.D. studies in applied mathematics, computer science, or related fields.
Admission Overview
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., mathematics, computer science, engineering) from an accredited institution. Additional requirements may include a minimum GPA, English proficiency test scores (e.g., TOEFL/IELTS), and letters of recommendation. The program is offered on-campus in Famagusta, North Cyprus. For specific deadlines and application procedures, prospective students should consult the official EMU admissions page.
