About University

History shapes future leaders’ perspectives.

The University of Kyrenia was established with a clear mission: to cultivate critical and innovative scholars dedicated to research, knowledge creation, and ethical values, all within an international educational framework. This commitment extends to instilling a strong sense of social responsibility in its students.

A Rich Heritage in Maritime Studies

The University's origins trace back to the creation of the first Maritime Studies Faculty in Cyprus, which was founded in 1978 at our sister institution, Near East University. This rich history bestows upon us a remarkable 35-year legacy of expertise in the field. Our foundations are firmly rooted in the legacy of Near East University.

Pioneering Maritime Education

The University of Kyrenia assumed full control of key academic programs from Near East University, including the Faculties of Maritime Studies (Maritime Management and Administration, Marine Sciences), the Marine Transportation and Management postgraduate program, and all Maritime Vocational School programs, along with their associated infrastructure and resources. This unique arrangement allowed us to leverage an existing infrastructure of students and faculty, granting us a distinctive advantage in delivering a world-class education enriched by decades of experience in the field.
