Arkın Palm Beach Hotel, Famagusta

Arkın Palm Beach Hotel beach and pool deck

Arkın Palm Beach sits on Famagusta's Palm Beach coastline as one of the smaller and more curated 5-star properties in North Cyprus. Reimagined in recent years as a boutique-scale hotel — 102 rooms rather than the 400-plus footprint typical of the Bafra and Kyrenia resorts — it combines private beachfront access with indoor and outdoor pools, a full spa and an on-site casino in a city-resort setting steps from Famagusta's walled old town.

Location & access

The hotel sits directly on Palm Beach, just south of central Famagusta — the closest beach to the city's old walled town and immediately next to the boundary of the Varosha (Maraş) district that partially reopened to visitors in recent years. Drive time from central Famagusta is a few minutes; from Ercan Airport, around 45 minutes. The location is unusual on the island: a beachfront resort that also gives walking access to a major historical city.

Rooms

The 102-room footprint is one of the smallest among the named 5-stars covered in this guide — closer to a boutique scale than a destination resort. The category mix runs from Standard Rooms (suited to couples or solo travellers) through Junior Suites and Grand Palm Suites with extra space, up to Resident Suites and Club Rooms at the top of the lineup. Every room includes air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a minibar and a private balcony.

The private beach

The hotel has direct access to a private stretch of Palm Beach — sandy seafront with the hotel's own loungers and parasols, a gently sloping entry into the water and clear Mediterranean swimming. The public side of Palm Beach (covered in the dedicated Palm Beach post) sits alongside, accessible to non-guests; hotel guests use the private section reserved for the property.

Pools and wellness

An outdoor pool and an indoor pool give guests two surfaces to swim across any visit, with the indoor option usable in cooler months and on windier days. The wellness wing runs a Jacuzzi, sauna and a treatment menu — boutique-scaled rather than the large multi-room spa floors at the Bafra resorts, but sufficient for a curated guest count.

Dining and the casino

The on-site dining covers the day at boutique scale rather than the multi-restaurant à la carte sprawl seen in the larger resorts. The casino runs as a separate adult-only space — a more compact floor than the Bafra-strip casinos, fitting the overall boutique character of the property.

Combining the visit

The location is the property's strongest feature. Within a short walk you can be inside Famagusta's medieval walled city — one of the most intact in the eastern Mediterranean — and from there explore the old churches, the harbour, the cobbled lanes and the partially-reopened Varosha district. Few 5-stars on the island combine a real beach with that kind of urban depth on foot.

Who it suits

Arkın Palm Beach works best for visitors who want a curated, smaller-scale 5-star experience — couples, solo travellers, returning visitors who want to skip the large family resorts. The location is particularly strong for guests who'd rather combine a beach holiday with cultural visits in Famagusta and the surrounding archaeological area than spend the whole week stay-on-resort. Visitors who specifically want a large family-resort offering with an aquapark and kids' club should look at the Bafra or Iskele properties instead.
