Kocareis Beach, North Cyprus

Kocareis Beach with mountain backdrop

Kocareis Beach is a smaller, quieter sandy beach east of Famagusta on the route toward the Karpaz peninsula. The setting — about 400 metres of soft sand framed by inland hills — gives it a distinct feel compared with the long flat resort beaches of the Iskele strip just to the south.

Location & access

The beach sits north of the Salamis area, accessible from the coastal road heading east out of Famagusta. Most visitors arrive by car; limited free parking is available at the entry. The nearest village settlement is a few kilometres inland, and the beach itself sits in a fairly undeveloped stretch — part of its appeal.

The beach

The sand is soft and the entry into the water is gentle. The backdrop of low coastal hills gives the beach a quieter, almost cove-like character even though the actual stretch is open coastline. The water tends to be calm in summer, which makes Kocareis usable for casual swimming and snorkeling.

Facilities

Sun loungers, umbrellas, toilets and showers are available — the standard kit, well-maintained. An on-site restaurant operates through the day. Lifeguards are on duty during peak hours. Several other cafés and food stops are nearby for visitors who want to extend the day with a meal or a coffee away from the beach.

Accommodation and camping

Kocareis Bungalows operates next to the beach for visitors who want to stay rather than just visit — basic bungalow accommodation a few steps from the sand. The car park area also accommodates camping for travellers driving the coast, which is unusual for the North Cyprus beach scene.

Water sports

Jet ski, pedalo and windsurf rental are typically available in season. The calmer water at Kocareis makes the windsurf and pedalo offerings approachable for beginners; jet ski rental tends to draw visitors from the nearby resort strip.

Who it suits

Kocareis is for visitors who want a quieter day at a real beach rather than a polished resort club — couples, families looking for calm water without crowds, and travellers who appreciate having a basic bungalow or camping spot a few metres from the sand. It pairs well with a wider Karpaz-direction day trip.
