Palm Beach is the closest sandy beach to Famagusta's walled old town — a short drive (about 2.4 km) south of the city centre, on the strip running down toward Varosha. Wide sand, shallow water and full beach facilities make it a default day-trip pick for visitors based in Famagusta or visiting the Eastern Mediterranean University campus.
Location & access
The beach sits just south of central Famagusta along the coastal road, just before the boundary of the Varosha (Maraş) area. The drive from the old town takes only a few minutes; visitors without a car can use the local minibus network running south along the coast. Parking is available near the entry.
The beach
Palm Beach is wide, sandy and shallow — the water shelves slowly into the bay, which makes it one of the safer beaches in the area for families with younger children. Soft sand stretches along the curve of the bay, and the water is consistently clean. The beach gets busy in peak summer weekends but holds its capacity comfortably given the available width.
Facilities
The beach is properly equipped for a full-day visit. Deckchairs and umbrellas are available for rent across the sand, with toilets and changing facilities nearby. A lifeguard is on duty during operating hours. Bars and restaurants line the back of the beach, offering everything from snacks and cold drinks to full sit-down meals.
Arkin Palm Beach Hotel
The Arkin Palm Beach Hotel sits directly on the same beach. Hotel guests use the property's private beachfront with its own loungers, bars and pool deck; the public stretch alongside is open to everyone. This means visitors get the best of both worlds — accessible public beach with the option to drop into the hotel's restaurants and bars.
Who it suits
Palm Beach is the most convenient option for visitors based in central Famagusta or staying inside the old walled city — it's close, well-equipped and family-friendly. It's also the most logical beach for EMU students and visiting families who want a quick beach day without driving up to the longer Iskele or Salamis stretches.
